You
have it--that special moment, captured for all time. Now you want to showcase
both the moment and your accomplishment in capturing it, whether it's a first
step, a first kiss, a sunset or that perfect bloom from your garden, but what's
the best way to share?
Whether
you want to display a traditional photo from a negative, a print from your
slideshow or a digital picture, have it enlarged to the size you want and place
it on your wall or tabletop. The proper frame will serve to better show off
your efforts.
The
frame should accommodate the picture without having to trim the print
excessively. If you've taken the time to have the print made correctly, the
cropping of the subject should already be done and it should fit securely in
the frame that you chose for it.
Once
you have set the size, you'll have some other decisions to make. First, do you
want to have a matte for your picture? A matte will allow you an opportunity to
add color and highlight certain elements of the picture or reinforce an overall
theme. For example, a slate blue matte for sailboats, varying hues of light
brown for beach settings, and pastels for spring photos of children hunting
Easter eggs could all add a nice touch to photos. When you buy picture frames, the choices
are limited only by your taste. The matte should extend around the photo, but
need not be equal on all four sides. The final size of the matte will determine
the size of the frame; if an 8x10 photo is surrounded by an 11x14 matte, you
would need a frame for an 11x14 picture.
Prepare
your frame for hanging or display by means of an easel or prop stand. You may
select the frame to blend with the overall decor of its setting or as a contrasting
piece to draw more attention to it. Choose a frame that's gilded, metallic,
with glass or without, whatever suits your taste. Be bold or restrained, avant-garde
or traditionalist and let your inner artist shine through as you crown your
photographic accomplishments.
