Picture Perfect: Choosing the Right Picture Frame for Your Favorite Photos

It seems simple enough – you have a great picture worth showing off, and you want to find a cool frame to put it in. However, choosing picture frames is more difficult than it seems. The right one will bring out a photo's best qualities, while the wrong one can alter its color and look or even drown out your picture altogether. To figure out what frame is right for your photograph, we suggest considering several things.

First, think about the style and mood of your photo. Is it a casual, spontaneous picture taken outdoors? A simple wooden frame might do the trick. If it's a quirky snapshot of you goofing off with friends, look for a funky or fun frame that helps capture the moment.

Next, consider the image's colors. If your photo has muted colors, opt for a frame with a neutral color, such as brown or tan, or one with an aged silver tone. Images with bolder colors can stand up to brighter frames -- just remember to choose a color that's already in the photo. Brightly colored photos pair also pair nicely with white picture frames or black ones with white matting. Black and white pictures look especially crisp and clean with black frames, but provided the photo has simple, clean lines, they can also look great with brightly colored frames.

Weddings deserve special consideration. Depending on the type of wedding you had, the type of picture you're framing, and your personal style preference, you could choose anything from a sleek and polished silver frame to a romantic scrolled metal frame or a simple black frame with elegant matting.

Finally, always keep balance in mind. Picture frames can be works of art. Make sure that the snapshot always remains the focus of attention. Your frame should never be too large, too busy, or too colorful for your photo. However, your photos aren't just decorative art; they're personal mementos that tell your story. With a little thought and some diligent searching, you can find the perfect frames in which to showcase them.

Choose Your Picture Frames Carefully

A beautiful picture deserves a beautiful frame. That being said, it is important to remember that the frame must complement the picture to enhance the quality of the photo. Simple pictures frames in one color or shade is perfect for a certificate, but may not be the best choice for an antique watercolor picture of a stream. It is true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and each individual has a different perspective on what constitutes attractiveness, but some basic rules do apply.

The first rule is that if the picture has colors then the frame should not feature any colors that clash with the picture. While this may seem obvious, it is the most common mistake people make and it takes away from the beauty of their favorite pictures. For example, if you have a bright red frame, don't place a delicate pastel picture inside of it. When picture frames are there to enhance the beauty of the picture, it should never attract eyes away from the beauty of the photograph.

When it comes to frames, size is very important. A 5x7 picture put into a 10x12 frame just looks out of place. The problem can be fixed by using matting, but on its own, the picture looks lost in an oversized frame.

We know that our frames are works of art in and of themselves. If the purpose of the frame is to highlight the picture, then the artistic quality of the frame should not outshine the picture. On the other hand, if the object is to highlight the frame, then the picture should not outshine the frame. Lovely baroque frames are often displayed just for the frame, which is terrific. In that case, it is important that the picture not be one of great importance. A simple picture of a waterfall or other nature themed photograph is a safe bet.

It's easy to see why picture frames are so important. We look forward to helping you find the best picture frames for your needs with our full selection of beautiful picture frames.

Picture Perfect Gifts For The Holidays

As stores brace for Black Friday—the day after Thanksgiving that has become known as the official start to the holiday shopping season—surveys reveal this may be a leaner year than many are predicting. A recent survey, conducted by GfK Custom Research North America, revealed that 40% of consumers will spend less this year, while 44% will spend approximately the same as in 2010. The increased thriftiness, researchers predict, will have consumers getting creative. For many holiday shoppers, few gifts combine sentimentality and class with low cost quite like picture frames.

With a little creativity and the perfect picture, discount picture frames can make perfect gifts. This brief guide will help you create a picture perfect gift on a budget that your friends and family will never forget.

Choosing The Perfect Picture: Like any great gift, choosing the perfect picture for your frame comes down to the personality of your recipient. If it is for your grandmother looking to stay connected to her relatives, a nice family photo will tug the heartstrings. If you are giving a photo to a close friend, a picture chronicling a memory you share or an inside joke will bring you closer together. For work associates or fans of artwork, a picture you took yourself makes a very classy gift. But remember to choose a picture that evokes a timeless feeling, as most silver or leather picture frames are built to last and will be on a table for all to see for quite some time.

Choosing The Perfect Frame: The larger the frame, the more space the recipient has to devote to your gift. If you give a large frame, be sure to include a photo that has some artistic flare and evokes the creativity of a work of art. Smaller frames can also make great gifts. Three-pane frames work best with silly pictures, while nice silver picture frames match with serious black-and-white photography. Make sure you choose a frame that matches your picture to create a more cohesive gift.

Wrap Carefully: Picture frames contain glass and can be broken on a long flight or a trip in the car. If you are shipping or traveling with a frame, you should package it very carefully. Use extra tissue paper to cushion the box or head to your local post office and find box materials that can easily hold the frame in place so you are not worried about broken glass in the box for your recipient.

Get Hard to Find Picture Frames

Do you ever get frustrated going from store to store trying to find the picture frames that will both match the colors of your rooms and actually fit the photographs that you want to frame? PhotoFrames.net has a wide variety of frames made from every kind of material you could want.

The hardest frames to find might be the 4 x 5 sized frames. Some of the most important memories of our lives are traditionally captured in 4 x 5 sized pictures, including school pictures and wedding proofs. Yet, because of the oddness of the size and relative rarity of photographs that are made 4 x 5, many stores simply don't bother carrying 4 x 5 picture frames. If they do carry them, the selection is very small.

At PhotoFrames.net, you can choose from every style of 4 x 5 frames you could want. We carry wood picture frames, metal frames and more.

Not all frames are hard to find because of their size, though. Maybe you have a specific material that you're looking for and can't find it anywhere. At Photoframes.net, you can shop by material, including leather, glass and even brass. Don't be discouraged if a store near you doesn't have what you're looking for. Try shopping online.
